FOTEFICC marked World Wetlands Day on February 2nd, 2023, with a strong commitment to raising awareness about the critical importance of wetland ecosystems. This special day provided an excellent platform for FOTEFICC to emphasize the value of wetlands in maintaining biodiversity, purifying water, and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
On the International Day of Forests in 2022, FOTEFICC undoubtedly celebrated this important occasion with a focus on raising awareness about the significance of forests and the urgent need for their preservation. This day, observed on March 21st each year, provides an ideal platform for FOTEFICC to emphasize the vital role forests play in maintaining biodiversity, mitigating climate change, and supporting the well-being of communities worldwide.





B. International coastal clean up
The International Coastal Cleanup event started at ABSA grounds in Kwale County from 17th to 25th September 2022 was a momentous occasion aimed at fostering cleanliness and purity not only along the coastal areas but for nature as a whole. With a theme deeply rooted in environmental consciousness, the event brought together dedicated individuals and organizations from around the world and within Mombasa to address the pressing issue of marine and environmental pollution. Kwale County, situated along Kenya’s picturesque coastline, provided an ideal backdrop for this important initiative.
The event was marked by a collective commitment to preserving the planet’s coastal ecosystems. Volunteers and participants from diverse backgrounds convened to take part in a massive cleanup effort, targeting not only coastal areas but also adjacent regions to ensure a comprehensive restoration of nature’s purity. This hands-on approach allowed individuals to witness the immediate impact of their efforts as they cleared beaches, removed debris from waterways, and tackled pollution sources.

1. Kaptagat tree planting
FOTEFICC collaborated with Tereben Primary School, Rotaract, and Rotary Club of Eldoret to plant 500 carefully selected tree saplings in Kaptagat, Eldoret. This joint effort aimed to promote environmental stewardship, biodiversity, and sustainable land use. The project involved active participation from students, fostering environmental awareness, and community engagement. The Rotaract and Rotary clubs provided valuable support. This initiative serves as a shining example of the positive impact that dedicated individuals and organizations can achieve when working together for a greater cause, leaving a legacy of environmental awareness and community unity.

2. Nduta tree planting party
The “Nduta Tree Planting Birthday Party” took place on Saturday, July 15th, 2023, in the Ngong Hills Forest Block, creating a unique and environmentally conscious celebration. This event combined the joy of a birthday celebration with the meaningful act of tree planting in a picturesque natural setting.
The Ngong Hills, known for their scenic beauty and lush landscapes, provided an ideal backdrop for this eco-friendly birthday gathering. The occasion, hosted by Nduta in partnership with FOTEFICC, was more than just a traditional birthday party; it symbolized a commitment to environmental conservation and a deep love for nature.

3. Mangrove tree planting
In Mombasa, the Gazi community united in a remarkable tree planting initiative, showcasing their unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement. This endeavour transcended a single event, representing an enduring dedication to safeguarding their cherished environment. With the leadership of community figures, including both elders and youth representatives, and collaborative efforts with environmental organizations, local schools, and government agencies, Gazi meticulously selected a planting site to address specific environmental needs. Their diverse selection of tree species, including mangroves and indigenous coastal trees, underscored their commitment to biodiversity and ecological balance. Families, friends, and neighbours of all ages joined forces, armed with shovels and saplings, working together to plant the trees and educate younger generations about the vital role of trees in sustaining life. The event was marked by speeches from community leaders highlighting the long-term benefits, including improved air quality and erosion control. This initiative epitomized the Gazi community’s dedication to environmental stewardship and unity, leaving a lasting legacy of thriving trees and a powerful example of the potential for community-driven environmental action.
